Chord Explorer
The chord explorer is where all the fun really begins.
The chord explorer allows you to combine sets of pitches to create chords.
Each pitch in a chord (ChordPitch) is a regular pitch that also has an associated dissonance.
The dissonance indicates how "tense" the pitch is relative to other pitches.
This applet is about 100k in size and may take up to one minute to load over modem connections.
Select pitches to manipulate by clicking on them in the music staff.
They will turn blue once they are selected.
You can add pitches by clicking the "add pitch" button and remove the selected pitch by clicking the "remove pitch" button.
The first four pitches are the "structural" pitches that determine the chords general quality and they cannot be removed.
As you adjust the the pitches the chord name is updated above the pitch choice.
You can browse the source for the ChordExplorer, Chord, and ChordPitch to get more detail.
